For sale is a Swiss Made Longines Ultra Chron Automatic men's watch with reference number 7851-1, presumably dating back to the early 1970s. The Ultra Chron name refers to the high-frequency Longines 431 movement, oscillating at 36.000 beats per hour. It is a highly accurate movement developed and manufactured by Longines in-house in the late 1960s, way ahead of its time. This specific Longines "Ultra Chron" watch features a slender pillow shaped unibody case design with an outer diameter of around 33mm. The dial on this particular example comes in a silver sunburst finish with thin raised black/polished steel indices. Stick shaped polished steel hands with black inlay indicate the time, and a date window can be found at 3 O'clock. The movement was entirely disassembled, cleaned and lubricated, and is accurately keeping time. The watch comes fitted to a brand new dark blue perforated leather strap with white stitching and generic stainless steel buckle.
The example sold here has been worn throughout its life, so you will find some wear marks on the case. All wear marks are relatively superficial though, with no serious scratches or dents. The most notable damage can be found on the bottom left lug and case. The case is unpolished and therefore in original shape. The dial is in really decent condition still given its age, with a few inevitable minor specks. The crystal is brand new, and a perfect fit. The original crown was fairly worn, and was replaced with a fitting albeit generic crown. The original crown and stem assembly will however be included, and can easily be retrofitted if desired.
