Victorian Locket
€1,950.00

For sale is this wonderful Victorian 18 Karat solid yellow gold Jet pendant. The front is decorated with many small and larger pearls set in a star shaped formation. Onyx jewelry were mostly worn in The Grand Victorian Era, between ca. 1861-1880. In this period Queen Victoria lost her beloved King Albert, therefore mourning jewellery became more popular in this period, since widows were expected to wear full mourning for two years. This would mean that they would only wear black clothes, symbolic of spiritual darkness, just like their jewelry. They had to be as black as possible. The bright buttery gold and white half pearls stand out magically against the dark background they shine like a glimmer of hope in the dark night.

This locket pendant is in very good condition considering its age. It holds a glass compartment which can keep a picture, lock of hair or anything flat in place and safe. On top of that is it hallmarked with a French eagle head and makers mark. We love every little detail of this star themed pendant and hope to find a new and warm home for it, where it will be treasured the way it should be treasured.
