For sale is a vintage Breitling SuperOcean Automatic men's dive watch with reference number A17040, dating back to 1998 according to its warranty certificate. The watch features a 41mm stainless steel case with Breitling's distinctive unidirectional bezel and rider tabs. It comes with a stunning deep blue sunburst dial that changes in colour and darkness depending on the lighting conditions. Luminous sword-shaped hands indicate the time against luminous numerals, and a date window can be found at 3 o'clock. As indicated on the dial, the watch boasts an impressive water resistance of up to 1,000m/3,300ft, thanks in part to its screw-down crown and helium escape valve. The crown is original and signed with the typical Breitling "B" logo. The watch is powered by Breitling calibre 17, a Swiss-made automatic movement based on the legendary ETA 2824-2, which is keeping accurate time.
The example offered here has been worn throughout its life but remains in good cosmetic condition. You will find signs of wear on both the case and bracelet, but no overly coarse damage. The case has been cleaned but was deliberately left unpolished to preserve its original edges, curves and finish. The bracelet was lightly touched up on the polishing wheel to restore the appearance of its brushed and polished surfaces. The sapphire crystal is brand new and free from scratches. Please study the photographs carefully: they show the watch in its actual condition, without digital enhancements to make it look better than it is. Functionally, the watch comes without a service history but has been thoroughly checked and is working perfectly; a service was not deemed necessary. The watch is fitted with its original stainless steel Breitling "Professional" bracelet with signed clasp. Please note that the bracelet is currently sized to fit wrists with a maximum circumference of approximately 17.5cm. Reducing the size is easily done by removing links; extending it further will require sourcing additional links online or through an authorised dealer. The watch is offered as a full set, accompanied by its original Bakelite presentation box, Colt/SuperOcean booklet, authorised distributors booklet, and warranty certificate dated December 1998. The box and documents aren't in the best condition due to improper storage, but at least they're present!
