For sale is a Swiss Made Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust Ref. 1603, dating to approximately 1973 based on its 352XXXX serial number. Considered by many collectors as one of the foundational vintage Datejust references, this example features a 36mm stainless steel case with engine-turned bezel. Behind the plexiglass crystal sits a beautiful silver sunburst "pie pan" dial, named for its distinctive sloped outer edge that adds a touch of depth. This is also a somewhat desirable Sigma dial, identifiable by the small σ symbols flanking "Swiss" at 6 o'clock, indicating solid gold applied hour markers and hands. The date display at 3 o'clock is magnified by Rolex's signature Cyclops lens. The original screw-down crown is decorated with the Rolex coronet logo.
The watch has been worn throughout its life but remains in good overall condition considering its age. The dial is particularly clean, with crisp printing and an undamaged finish. The case and bracelet show normal signs of wear, most noticeably on the case sides and clasp. It currently fits wrists up to approximately 17.5cm in circumference. In order to extend the bracelet size past the current maximum, spare links will have to be sourced online or at a dealership.
