Offered for sale is a Swiss-made Omega Seamaster "Polaris" GMT men's watch with reference number 396.1122, presumably dating to 1986 based on its serial number. This unusual timepiece features a 31mm by 36mm stainless steel case measuring just under 7mm in thickness, characterised by a yellow gold X-shaped inlay. Sadly, this inlay is also one of the reasons why these watches are becoming increasingly rare: due to the rising price of gold, many examples have been dismantled for their precious metal content. We hope to find a great new home for this one, saving it from that dreaded fate. The watch is powered by the Omega calibre 1449, based on the ETA 255.265: a precise Swiss-made quartz movement with a GMT function that is keeping accurate time.
The watch has been worn throughout its life but remains in good overall condition considering its age. The case and bracelet show normal signs of wear without excessive damage. The case has been cleaned but deliberately left unpolished to preserve its original edges, curves and finish. The sapphire crystal appears free from scratches under close inspection. The dial and hands remain clean, with some minor darkening to the lume on the GMT hand. Functionally, the watch comes without a service history but has been thoroughly checked, received an new battery and is working perfectly; a service was not deemed necessary. The original bracelet, with clasp code 1455/448, currently fits wrists up to approximately 19cm in circumference. Reducing the size is easily done by removing links; extending it further will require sourcing additional links online or through an authorised dealer.
