This particular hors-head hallmark is a French hallmark that was set in gold jewelry between 1838 and 1919. Meaning that this ring is dating back to the French Napoleon III period during English Queen Victoria's reign.

This wonderful high society opera lorgnette is crafted out of 18 ct yellow gold in France around 1860. This lovely detailed throughout attribute is engraved by hand and has a very royal appearance. Like most Victorian jewelry, in the center of this glasses-cover we find a graceful elevated floral leaf spectacle that is surrounded by elegant and floral curls. The many details and all the extra small engravings ensure that this large pendant is breathtakingly beautiful.

This Victorian heirloom is marked with French eagle heads and a makers mark. The glasses itself are in a very good condition considering their age. There are no big damages in the glass, only some small scratches and spots like you can see in the pictures. These folding glasses are provided with a hidden activation lever for the spring-load mechanism, so the glasses pop open once you pressed this release clasp.

This type of accessory were a common sight at the opera and theatre during the 19th century. They were the stylish and royal precursor to modern opera glasses. Freely translate the french word lorgnette means 'to eye furtively' meaning it was used for more than only to see the opera itself. Especially by this curios rich ladies in the balconies who, due to etiquette, were not allowed to look behind them to discover who entered their box and with whom this new spectator came to see the opera. Therefor they used these glasses as a secret mirror too, using the glasses reflection. I just tried it and I was amazed by the fact that it worked perfectly.

This beautiful and generous cross pendant is a real treat for the eye. This art deco pendant is fully set with diamonds that are all decorated and put in the spotlight by millegraine detailing and finishes which make them appear as one. The main shape of the cross is set with twenty-four single cut diamonds. These are all of SI-P quality according to the current 21st century standards, although this quality is the most common quality used for beautiful antique jewelry like this one. In total this cross holds approx. 1,6 ct of diamonds. 

In the center of the cross we find an old European cut diamond with SI quality and with an approx weight of 0,25 ct. This pendant has beautiful open-work parts. These arise because the main arms of the cross are flanked by extra thin lanes that are attached to the centre cross via geometric filigree decoration. The inner corners of the cross are in turn decorated with triangular shapes which are, like the rest of this jewel, set with hand cut diamonds. Each triangle holds six diamonds, all rose or single cut. These triangles provide its extra strong Art Deco look.

This 18 ct white gold stunner is not only a pendant, it can also be used as a brooch with its trombone safety clasp, typical for European jewelry crafted in the late 19th and early 20th century. We love the wonderful open work of this royal brooch pendant. It gives some extra grandeur and elegance to this big size cross.
